Energi’s Security Protocol Overview
Crime is one of the biggest pain points in the cryptocurrency industry with damages in the billions. This pain point is especially felt in the rapidly growing NFT space. You’ve probably by now seen tweets about people’s assets being stolen which sadly now occurs on nearly a daily basis.
To explain our security protocol succinctly, there are 2 major requirements to provide a safe blockchain environment:
- On-chain Governance -This enables the Energi blockchain to blacklist bad actor wallets and return stolen assets through decentralized voting built directly into the blockchain. The Energi blockchain is the only blockchain that has these capabilities. And while Ethereum smart contracts can provide some degree of governance (although most don’t, refer to NFT crime), there’s a second key outstanding issue.
- After a crime occurs, criminals often liquidate assets as quickly as possible. This sort of event is catastrophic for any organization as by the time they are able to react, losses could already be enough to bankrupt them. The tokens can be reissued, but the buyers of the stolen goods would need to be reimbursed as well, which could cost hundreds of millions of dollars. In the enterprise security token space, which comes with fiduciary responsibility, the kind of security assurance Energi provides is essentially required.
Therefore. the other necessary component is to have a time delay for moving funds off the Energi blockchain, which is set to 3.5 days. Users can still transfer and trade assets virtually instantly on our blockchain, such as by using the Energiswap DEX, this only applies to moving funds to an external exchange or bridging off our blockchain (out of our reach).
This design is very similar to the “three-day good funds model.” 3.5 days gives users/businesses enough time to realize if an asset has been stolen (via alerts), and notify our organization to freeze those assets/funds, after which we have plenty of time to conduct an investigation and return them. This clearance time is pretty minimal, as there are a number of top blockchain projects that require 21 days or other similar timelines just to un-stake their coins.
With the combination of these two features, we’ve reduced crime by over 95%. Note that our security protocols not only disable bad actors, but also act as a deterrent. It’s for this reason we’ve seen far less crime on the Energi blockchain than anywhere else.

Energi Defense and its investigative arm, Energi Bureau of Investigations (EBI), serve to protect our community from hackers, scammers, and other bad actors in the space. Our elite team ranges from veterans of the Cybersecurity industry to veterans of the Intelligence Community (FBI, CIA, etc).

We then work with the victim to provide a comprehensive incident report to law enforcement officials to apprehend the individual and pursue recovery of funds.
- What you should not expect from us
- That we will rollback the blockchain to recover your funds. Being involved in cryptocurrency brings with it the inherent risk of being your own bank. YOU need to take proper safeguards and responsibility to ensure that you do not become a victim of cybercrime. Most cybercriminals go after the easiest targets, so taking common sense cybersecurity steps can drastically reduce your chances of being hacked.
- We cannot guarantee that we can recover stolen funds, but we will do our best to assist. While sometimes it is possible for our team to recover stolen funds, most law enforcement investigations take months to years to resolve. Either way, it is best to take down these cybercriminals to reduce the number of future crimes.
